Mortice locks are commonly referred to as ‘Chubb Locks’ and are one of the most recognised names in residential and commercial security.
Back in 2010, the Chubb brand owner UTC decided not to renew the license to manufacture locks which is held by ASSA ABLOY. Instead the Chubb brand name was replaced by the UNION and Yale brand on the majority of its locking products. The same products are still manufactured but no longer display the Chubb Locks brand. As ASSA ABLOY Director, Paul Browne, explained in 2010: “We are sad to lose the Chubb brand but the reality is that nothing will change other than the name. The same products will be made by the same people, using the same technology in the same factories but, from mid 2010, mortice locks and padlocks will carry the UNION name and additional security, such as window locks, will carry the Yale brand.” “Wherever possible we are retaining exactly the same part numbers and so householders, locksmiths and installers will still be able to order replacements for existing Chubb products. We will also be providing service and support for existing Chubb locks for many years to come.” Source: https://www.assaabloy.co.uk/en/local/uk/news/2009/news/chubb-locks-brand-to-change-in-2010/
